We call the Sabbath a bride
On Shabbat (Jewish sabbath) we welcome the kallah – the Sabbath bride. Why do we call the Sabbath a bride? Since the Sabbath is considered a partner to the Jewish people; it is our help mate – our bride.
Spouses are supposed to help their partners be their very best selves and reach their true potential; likewise, the Sabbath, by giving us a day to pause, to reflect, to challenge ourselves out of complacency, helps us to be our best selves. How fitting it is to call our Sabbath and a bride – a kallah.
Together with our beautiful brides and grooms, let us pause and reflect how we can help our partners be their very best selves and reach their truest potentials.
